Returning to consulting for nonprofits after five years with the Arizona Community Foundation, Judi Smith has more than 30 years in the non-profit arena. She has been an executive director for staffs from three to 33, a director of planned giving, a regional specialist for capital campaigns, a marketing communications manager, a teacher, a writer, and a mentor. Her experience spans higher education development and alumni relations, national and international philanthropy, and the arts.
As senior director of planned giving for Arizona Community Foundation, Judi directed Classes 8 through 11 of the Arizona Endowment Building Institute. She developed and taught the Planned Giving 100 and 200 education series for nonprofits around the state. Additionally, she backstopped regional offices in developing complex gifts and helping educate allied professionals in charitable giving techniques while working with her own portfolio of legacy donors and nonprofits.
Judi has consulted for higher education, religious and private schools, social service agencies, arts organizations, health care organizations, a church, and community foundations. She has assisted nonprofits in analyzing their fundraising operations; consulted on capital campaigns; trained executive directors, boards, and development staff; helped organizations implement planned giving programs; and developed appropriate development plans from organizational strategic plans.
Currently President of the Planned Giving Round Table of Arizona, she is Past President of the St. Louis Planned Giving Council; Past Chair of the Greene County (MO) Historic Sites Board; Past President of the Springfield (MO) Area Arts Council; past board member of the Northern Arizona and St. Louis Association of Fundraising Professionals and the St. Louis Arts and Education Council. She received the Outstanding Fundraising Professional of the Year Award from the Springfield (MO) AFP Chapter in 2005.
